XSI Mod Tool Interface

This page provides a brief overview of the XSI Mod Tool interface. Screenshots are taken from Mod Tool version 6 running on Windows XP. For a more complete description of the XSI interface, see the Official XSI Documentation (http://softimage.wiki.avid.com/xsidocs/hh_start.htm).

XSI Mod Tool interface

Default Mod Tool layout:

  1. Title bar. Shows the XSI Mod Tool version number, project name and scene name.
  2. Main menu bar. Contains the typical menu options, including File, Edit, View, Display, Window, and Help. Also has a Mode option to let you switch between different interface modes and plugin options depending on installed plugins. (ValveSource and XNA Game Studio options are displayed in the accompanying image.)
  3. Main tool bar. Divided into General Navigation, Views, Transform, Display, Duplicate and Snap. These are frequently used controls available for most operations.
  4. Module tool bar. Common modding functions are accessible through this tool bar. In professional mode, the options available here change depending on the mode you select.
  5. Command panel. Controls for selecting and transforming objects and freezing your transformations.
  6. Viewport. The default work area for the XSI Mod Tool is a single perspective viewport. To switch to the four-panel view, click on the Resize icon at the far right of the viewport toolbar.
  7. Script editor and message center. The small button depicting a scroll can be used to access the script editor and view error and warning messages from XSI Mod Tool. The Start button can be used to quickly access Netview.
  8. Animation controls. The animation controls include the key frame editing controls at the far right as well as the time slider and animation playback buttons along the bottom of the main viewport.
  9. Status line. The status line at the very bottom of the window displays context-sensitive help information about the current status of the mouse buttons.

Note that the default Mod Tool mode interface differs from the professional mode interface. In general, this difference consists of fewer, but more targeted commands. All of the commands are still accessible via professional mode. To switch to professional mode, select Modes -> XSI Default (Pro Mode) or select View -> Layouts -> Default.
