When a movie or avi file used as a texture it is missing from the rendered images
Article needs peer review
Symptom
The Softimage XSI interface loads and renders a moving texture sequence with no problems, for instance, a Quicktime movie applied as a texture.
But, when the same scene is rendered on a render machine, running xsibatch, the resulting images show the movie has been replaced with the no_icon.pic image.
The main workstation renders the same scene with no problem, including the movie or avi file texture.
There is no problem with file access or file permissions, nothing that would appear to prevent the render machine from accessing and opening the movie or avi file.
Cause
If the machine you are rendering on does not have the correct codec installed to allow it to open and run the movie or avi file, then the image sequence will not be used for the render.
The movie, or avi file, is loaded into memory and used from memory for the texture sequence, but if the render machine cannot open the file it will not be able to use it for the render. The image sequence would then be replaced with the no_icon.pic image.
Solution
Ensure that your render machines all have the correct codec installed, and that they can open and run the movie or avi file. If the machine can open and run the file, then it will be able to use it for the render.
