Usb to serial cable
This article applies to the Serial dongle type.
Summary
In the case where all your serial COM ports are used or if your computer doesn't have any COM ports, you can use a USB to serial converter to plug the dongle to your computer.
Steps
Once the dongle is plugged into the computer using the USB adapter, Windows will detect the new device and will ask for the location of the USB cable drivers. The USB manufacturer provides those drivers.
- After the installation of the USB cable, right-click on My Computer and choose Manage.
- Look in the Ports (COM & LPT) section in the Device Manager to find out what COM number has been assigned to the USB to serial cable.
- You can then edit the spm-config file in Start > Programs > Softimage Products > Softimage Licensing and modify the following line:
DONGLE_PORT=COM2:
On the right side of the equal sign enter the appropriate COM number that was assigned to the USB to serial cable.
