Troubleshooting with Process Monitor
FileMon and RegMon have been replaced with Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/processmonitor.mspx).
Process Monitor is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity. Process Monitor can help diagnose conflicts between XSI and other programs.
Download Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/processmonitor.mspx).
Using Process Monitor with XSI
- Install Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/processmonitor.mspx) (actually, all you have to do extract the files to a folder somewhere, there is no Setup program to run).
- Start ProcMon.exe.
- Click Ctrl+E to stop capturing events.
- Click Ctrl+X to clear the Process Monitorwindow.
- Close all running applications, except for Process Monitor.
- In the ProcMon window, click Ctrl+E.
- Recreate the problem (for example, for a startup crash, just start XSI; for an install problem, run the install program; for a rendering crash, go back to XSI and start the render).
- After you reproduce the problem, go back to the Process Monitor window and press Ctrl+E again.
- Then save the Process Monitor log (click File > Save, and save the log using the PML format).
Zip up the log file (it may be quite large) and put it on ftp.softimage.com/incoming, and then send an email with the name of the uploaded file to support@softimage.com.
Using Process Monitor with License Manager
- Install Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/processmonitor.mspx) (actually, all you have to do extract the files to a folder somewhere, there is no Setup program to run).

- Close all running applications, except for Process Monitor.
- Click Ctrl+E to stop capturing events.
- Click Ctrl+X to clear the Process Monitor window.
- In the ProcMon window, click Ctrl+E to start capturing events.
- Start the License Manager and recreate the problem.
- After you reproduce the problem, go back to the Process Monitor window and click Ctrl+E again.
- Save the Process Monitor log (click File > Save, and save the log using the PML format).
