Troubleshooting - WARNING : 3000 - Missing OpenGL extension

Problem

When you start XSI, you see these warnings in the scripting history:

WARNING : 3000 - Missing OpenGL extension ( ARB_Shadow ) - realtime shadow maps will not be available
WARNING : 3000 - Missing OpenGL extension ( ARB_Multitexture ) - realtime shadow maps will not be available

Solution

These warnings indicate that your graphic card does not support the specified OpenGL extensions.

You can download an OpenGL Extensions viewer from this site: http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/index.html. You can use this to check whether or not your card does support ARB_Shadows and ARB_multitexture.

If your card does support these openGL extensions, then try renaming your User folder. For example:

For example, rename:

   C:\users\tamu\Softimage\XSI_5.11

to

   C:\users\tamu\Softimage\XSI_5.11.bak

Then run XSI again. This resets all your preferences to the defaults. Also, any toolbars, plugins, and addons you had in your User folder will no longer be loaded at startup.
