Article needs peer review

Symptom

Cause

Some parts of SPM can't be uninstalled automatically. Since SPM is not completely removed, any attempt to reinstall SPM will ask to remove the previous installation (in loop).

Solution

A clean, manual uninstallation is required before reinstalling SPM. To do so, you will need to perform each of the following steps :

  • First, open Services in Control Panel > Administrative Tools, and be sure that the service SPM License Server is stopped (if it exists).

Cleaning SPM from the registry

  • Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
  • Delete all spmd folders found in these locations:
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet004Services
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet003Services
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet002Services
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001Services
  • Locate and click the following registry key:
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall
  • After you click the Uninstall registry key (the folder icon of the uninstall folder needs to be open), right-click on that open Uninstall folder and select Find.
  • Enter spm in the box and click Find Next. The result should look like this:

  • You have to delete the folder in which spm was found. In this example the folder {19385EAD-C1D7-45D6-8692-4E3EEA861E38} needs to be deleted. In your case the folder will have a different name.

Cleaning SPM from Start menu

  • Click Start, click Programs, click Softimage Products, delete the Softimage Licensing folder (if it exists).

Cleaning SPM from the installation path

  • Open My Computer, browse to c:Softimage and delete the Spm folder.

You should now be able to reinstall the SPM license server without being asked to remove the previous installation.
