Spm fatal error message when clicking generate request

Symptom 

 ******** Generating key request code ********
 SPM_FATAL ERROR (C:WINNTSystem32spmspm_key.exe) : can't access dongle at COM2:


Cause

The dongle could not be read because the wrong COM port has been assigned to SPM.

Solution

  • You need to edit the spm-config.ini. Open the file from Start > programs > Softimage Products > Softimage Licensing > Edit SPM Config or C:WINDOWS\System32\spm\spm-config.ini
  • Locate the line: 
 DONGLE_PORT=COM2:
  • Replace the 2 with a 1 or vice-versa.
