SPM FATAL ERROR - can't access dongle at -SLP

Problem

You cannot start the license server, install a key, or generate a request.

In the SPM server log, you see errors like this:

Jan/24/08 16:56:22 CRITICAL: fatal error: "can't access dongle at -SLP.".

Solution

Check the permissions on these registry keys:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Softimage\LicenseManager
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Softimage\LicenseManager\Activation

To check the permissions:

1. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Softimage\LicenseManager
2. Click Permissions
3. Click the Advanced button
4. Administrators should have Full Control permissions.

Permissions

Make sure both keys have the Inherit from parent... check box selected.
