Installing Foundation/Student-Teacher
This "how to" article provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Foundation/Student-Teacher license of XSI on either a standalone computer (for example, on your home computer, or any other computer that is not connected to a network), or on a computer on a network.
| 1. Run the downloaded Setup.exe file. After you download XSI, double-click the downloaded Setup.exe file. This extracts the Setup program onto your hard disk and then automatically launches the Setup. | |
| 2. Start the XSI Setup program Finally, the Setup program starts and displays the groovy splash screen. | |
| 3. Agree to the Legal Stuff Next, you'll have to agree to licensing agreement. You can even take the time to read it, but it is pretty much standard stuff (except maybe for the part about XSI not being designed to operate nuclear facilities :-). Select the I accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. If you select the other option, well, that's pretty much it for installing anything! | |
| 4. Choose the folder where you want to install XSI By default, XSI is installed in the folder C:\Softimage. We recommend you use this folder. If you do want to use a different location, click Browse. Click Next to continue. | |
| 5. Ready to install The Setup program now has all the information it needs to install XSI. You can review your installation choices, and when you're ready to go ahead with the install, click Next. | |
| 6. Watching the files install The Setup program installs XSI in the folder that you specified. | |
| 7. Setup Finished Click OK to activate your license and then start XSI. Clear the check boxes if you don't want to perform those actions right now. To activate your license later:
| |
| 8. License Activation To download and activate your license, enter your softimage.com user name and password, and your registration code. Then click Activate. If you purchased XSI by download, then you should of received an e-mail message with your registration code. Otherwise, if you received an XSI box, you should find your registration code in the box. | |
| 9. Key File Generated From Registration Code Click Yes. You don't need to write down or remember any of the information in this message box; you can always get the information (such as the server ID, which is sometimes called the host ID) by running the License Manager. | |
| 10. Save License Keys The .keys file contains your license. We recommend saving it in the suggested location (C:\Windows\system32\spm). However, if you want, you can save the .keys file somewhere else, and even rename it.
| |
| 11. License is Now Active This confirms that your license was successfully activated. The license server is now running, and you can start XSI anytime you want. Click OK. |
