Import actions from an SI3d scene as individual clips into XSI
Article needs peer review
Question
You have a whole bunch of actions in your SOFTIMAGE|3D scene that you want to import into XSI, but when you do this, all the actions are imported as a single action clip. This is because SOFTIMAGE|3D saves the actions into a single .ani file.
Answer
Here are some workarounds:
- In SOFTIMAGE|3D, save each action separately with the Save > Selected Elements > Animation command.
- This may be a bit time consuming, so here's another way:
- Import the actions into XSI as a single clip.
- Load the clip into the animation mixer.
- Split the clip into multiple clips: place the cursor where you want to divide the clip, then right-click and choose Split (or choose Clip > Split in the mixer).
More Information
You can also freeze the split clip to create a new source by choosing Clip > Freeze to New Source or Freeze and Replace.
