How To: Install Your License Key


Applies to XSI 5.11 and earlier and Lictools

This "how to" article provides step-by-step instructions for installing your license key.


Save the .keys attachment

1. Save your .keys file.

Save your .keys file in the folder C:\windows\system32\spm.

2. Back up any existing keys.

If this is the first license key you have ever installed on this computer, you can skip this step. If you're not sure, click List Keys to see if any license keys are installed already. If List Keys says "(NO LICENSES INSTALLED)" then you can go to the next step.

Otherwise, if you have an existing license key, you must back up the existing key before you install your new key.

  1. Right-click the title bar of the Lictools dialog box (where it says Softimage Licensing Tool).
  2. Click Rename Key DB.

3. Click Install Keys.

If the Install Keys button is disabled, click Stop Server.

4. Locate the .keys file.

In the Keys File dialog box, locate the .keys attachment you saved from your e-mail client. Click the .keys file and then click Open.


5. Start the license server.

After you install your license key, click Start Server to start the license server. Now you're ready to start XSI.
