How To: Install XSI on a standalone computer

This "how to" article provides step-by-step instructions for installing XSI on a standalone computer (for example, on your home computer, or any other computer that is not connected to a network).

Important Before installing XSI, we strongly recommend that you first install SPM.

3. Agree to the Legal Stuff

Next, you'll have to agree to licensing agreement. You can even take the time to read it, but it is pretty much standard stuff (except maybe for the stuff about XSI not being designed to operate nuclear facilities:-). Click Accept to continue.

6. Choose the setup type

Click Typical and then click Next.

The only reason to click Custom is if you want to install the Avid DIO | Mojo Software. You need this only if you intend to output hardware- and software-rendered effects from XSI to a monitor through an Avid Mojo or Adrenaline system. See the XSI Setup Guide for more details.

7. User Preferences

Click Next to continue without migrating user preferences from an existing installation of XSI.

This page allows you to:

  • Change the User location.
The User location is where your personal preferences (such as your preferred scripting language) and customizations (such as toolbars) are stored. To change the User location, click Browse and locate the folder you want to use as your User location.
  • Migrate (copy) preferences from a previous installation of XSI.
User preferences are option settings like the default UI layout, the number of Undo levels, and the default scripting language. If you have an existing installation of XSI, you may want to migrate (copy) the user preferences from that installation into your new installation of XSI. To migrate preferences, click the Migrate button and then click the location of the preferences you want to migrate.

When you install XSI on a standalone computer, you don't have to worry about distributed rendering, because all rendering will be done on the local machine.
