How To: Install XSI on a standalone computer
This "how to" article provides step-by-step instructions for installing XSI on a standalone computer (for example, on your home computer, or any other computer that is not connected to a network).
Important Before installing XSI, we strongly recommend that you first install SPM.
| 1. Run the downloaded exe file. After you download XSI, double-click the downloaded .exe file. This extracts the Setup program onto your hard disk and then automatically launches the Setup. | |
| 2. Start the XSI Setup program Finally, the Setup program starts. Click Next to continue. | |
| 3. Agree to the Legal Stuff Next, you'll have to agree to licensing agreement. You can even take the time to read it, but it is pretty much standard stuff (except maybe for the stuff about XSI not being designed to operate nuclear facilities:-). Click Accept to continue. | |
| 4. Choose Local Install Click Local Install to install XSI on your computer.
| |
| 5. Choose the folder where you want to install XSI By default, XSI is installed in the folder C:\Softimage. We recommend you use this folder. If you do want to use a different location, click Browse. Click Next to continue.
| |
| 6. Choose the setup type Click Typical and then click Next. The only reason to click Custom is if you want to install the Avid DIO | Mojo Software. You need this only if you intend to output hardware- and software-rendered effects from XSI to a monitor through an Avid Mojo or Adrenaline system. See the XSI Setup Guide for more details.
| |
| 7. User Preferences Click Next to continue without migrating user preferences from an existing installation of XSI. This page allows you to:
| |
| 8. Ready to install The Setup program now has all the information it needs to install XSI. You can review your installation choices, and when you're ready to go ahead with the install, click Next.
| |
| 9. Distributed Rendering Clear the Configure satellite distributed rendering check box and click Next. When you install XSI on a standalone computer, you don't have to worry about distributed rendering, because all rendering will be done on the local machine.
| |
| 10. SPM Settings Under License Server, type the name of your computer in the text box. If you don't know the name of your computer, type "localhost" (without the quotation marks). Next, assuming that you have already installed SPM and your dongle is plugged in, click Test to verify that your computer can connect to the license server. Then click Add. If you have not installed SPM, do not plug in your dongle now (you will plug the dongle in during the SPM installtion). Click Next to continue. | |
| 12. Setup Finished Click OK. If SPM is already installed, then you are finished the installation. If SPM is not installed, now go install the SPM License Server.
