How To: Install SPM on 64-bit Windows
This "how to" article provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SPM License Server on 64-bit Windows.
This article assumes that you are installing SPM for the very first time. If you have previously installed SPM, some of the steps (such as step 14) may not be necessary.
Important
- Do not plug in the dongle until after the SPM installation is finished.
- To successfully install SPM, you must be an Administrator on the computer. If you are the only user of the computer, you are most likely an Administrator. To check, go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and check that your user account is a member of the Administrators group.
 | 1. Run the downloaded exe file. After you download SPM, double-click the downloaded .exe file. This extracts the Setup program onto your hard disk and then automatically launches the Setup. |
 | 2. The Welcome page After the Setup program is extracted, the Welcome page appears. Click Next. |
 | 3. License Agreement Click Yes.

 | 3. Fill in the Customer information Type in a user name and a company name. It doesn't matter what you type, just type something. Then click Next. |
 | 4. Choose the folder where SPM will be installed We recommend you install SPM in the default location, so just click Next. If you want to choose a different location, click Browse. |
 | 5. Select a Program Folder Click Next. This option determines where "Softimage Licensing" appears in the Windows Start menu. By default, Setup adds "Softimage Licensing" here: Start > All Programs > Softimage Products > Softimage Licensing. |
 | 6. Specify the dongle type Unless you specifically requested a different type of dongle, you have a USB dongle and you can click Next. |
 | 7. Select the port Click OK, unless you know you need to change the port number. The port number is entered in the file %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\services. |
 | 8. Check the settings before starting the install If you are happy with the installation settings, click Next to start the actual installation. Otherwise, click Back to change the settings.

 | 9. InstallShield Wizard Complete The SPM License Server is now installed. Click Finish exit the Setup wizard.

| 10. Plug in your dongle Plug your USB dongle into one of the USB ports on the comptuer.

 | 11. The Found New Hardware Wizard After you plug in your dongle, the Found New Hardware Wizard automatically opens. On the Welcome page of the wizard, click No, not at this time and then click Next. Tip If the wizard doesn't appear, try plugging the dongle into a different USB port.

 | 12. Install from a specific location Click Install from a list or a specific location and then click Next.

 | 13. Don't search Click Don't search. I will choose a driver to install and then click Next.

 | 14. Select the Hardware Type In the list of common hardware types, click Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and then click Next. If the dongle driver was installed on this computer before (but then removed), then you should see SPM Devices in the list of hardware types. If so, click SPM Devices and then click Next.

 | 15. Drivers If the list of drivers is empty, click Have Disk and continue to step 16. Otherwise, click USB iButton holder for SPM and then click Next and skip ahead to step 20.

 | 16. Browse for the driver In the Install From Disk dialog box, click Browse. |
 | 17. Locate the driver file

 | 18. Install From Disk Click OK to continue. |
 | 19. Select device driver Usually you can just click Next. If there is a list of hardware under Models, click USB iButton holder for SPM and then click Next. |
 | 20. Security Alert - Driver Installation Click Yes to continue installing the driver.

 | 21. Please wait while the wizard installs SPM This takes only a moment. |
 | 22. Finished! The driver is now installed. Click Finish to close the wizard. |
