How To: Install SPM
This "how to" article provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SPM License Server on 32-bit Windows.
Important
- Do not plug in the dongle. If the dongle is plugged in, unplug it. The Setup program will prompt you to plug in the dongle.
- To successfully install SPM, you must be an Administrator on the computer. If you are the only user of the computer, you are most likely an Administrator. To check, go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and check that your user account is a member of the Administrators group.
| 1. Run the downloaded exe file. After you download SPM, double-click the downloaded .exe file. This extracts the Setup program onto your hard disk and then automatically launches the Setup. | |
| 2. The Welcome page After the Setup program is extracted, the Welcome page appears. Click Next. | |
| 3. License Agreement Click Yes.

| 3. Fill in the Customer information Type in a user name and a company name. It doesn't matter what you type, just type something. Then click Next. | |
| 4. Choose the folder where SPM will be installed We recommend you install SPM in the default location, so just click Next. If you want to choose a different location, click Browse. | |
| 5. Select a Program Folder Click Next. This option determines where "Softimage Licensing" appears in the Windows Start menu. By default, Setup adds "Softimage Licensing" here: Start > All Programs > Softimage Products > Softimage Licensing. | |
| 6. Specify the dongle type Unless you specifically requested a different type of dongle, you have a USB dongle and you can click Next. | |
| 7. Select the port Click OK, unless you know you need to change the port number. | |
| 8. Check the settings before starting the install If you are happy with the installation settings, click Next to start the actual installation. Otherwise, click Back to change the settings.

| 9. Install 1-Wire Drivers After the SPM Setup program finishes, it automatically starts the Setup program for the 1-Wire dongle drivers. Click Yes to continue. | |
| 10. 1-Wire Setup Program To successfully install 1-Wire, your Windows user account must have Administrator permissions. Click OK if you are an Administrator on your computer (if you are the only user on your computer, then you most likely are an Administrator). If you are really not sure, then to check if you are an Administrator (on Windows XP): click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and verify that your user account belongs to the Administrators group (not the Users group). | |
| 11. USB Warning Make sure your dongle is unplugged, and then click OK.

| 12. License Agreement Click Yes to continue.

| 13. License Agreement Click Next to continue. You don't need to read this README information. | |
| 14. Choose the installation location Click Next to use the default installation location.

| 15. Choose the program folder Again, just click Next to use the default settings.

| 17. Plug in your dongle When you see the BOOT Option message box, plug in your dongle. Important Plug the dongle into a USB port on the back of your computer (or the side of your laptop). Do not use a USB hub or a USB extension cable. Then click OK. If you see a Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, ignore it for a moment.

| 18. Setup Complete Click Finish to close the 1-Wire setup program. You're not finished yet, you still need to go through the New Hardware Wizard, but the 1-Wire setup program is finished.

| 19. The Found New Hardware Wizard After you plug in your dongle, the Found New Hardware Wizard automatically opens. On the Welcome page of the wizard, click No, not at this time and then click Next. Tip If the wizard doesn't appear, try plugging the dongle into a different USB port.

| 20. Install from a specific location Click Install from a list or a specific location and then click Next.

| 21. Don't search Click Don't search. I will choose a driver to install and then click Next.

| 22. Select device driver Usually you can just click Next. If there is a list of hardware under Models, locate USB Host for 1-Wire Microlan and then click Next. | |
| 23. Wait a moment Wait while the wizard sets a system restore point. The wizard will then open a Files Needed dialog box. | |

| 25. Finally finished You're done. Click Finish. |
