Getting your XSI 6.0 license (Linux)

-

If you are using a Linux operating system, you must request and install licenses using Lictools. The Lictools program lets you generate, request, install, and manage your licenses. The Lictools program is automatically installed with XSI to the following path:

 /usr/Softimage/Spm/bin/lictools

To open the Lictools program, type the following at the command line:

 /usr/Softimage/Spm/bin/lictools

Requesting and Receiving Licenses

To get your license, you must generate and send a license request using the License Request form.

  1. In the Lictools window, click the Generate Request button. This generates the request code and displays it in the Generate request code dialog box.
  2. Click Save As to save the code to a request file (*.req). Type the .req extension at the end of the file name in the text to make sure that it is saved properly.
  3. Open the request file in a text editor and copy and paste the information to the License Request Form found at http://www.softimage.com/licensing/.
  4. You can also access this form by clicking the button at the top of the Lictools program window.
  5. Your request is sent to Softimage and a license keys file (*.keys) will be e-mailed to you.

Installing Licenses

You must enter the license information that you received by e-mail. Remember that you also have to start the license server after installing the license.

  1. In the Lictools program window, click the Install Keys button. In the browser, select your license keys file (*.keys) to install the keys in the key database.
  2. If you get the error “Wrong SYSTEM-ID for SPM License Keyfile”, you are installing a new license key on a machine with a previously installed license key. You need to delete the spm-kf file. This is a hidden file, so you will need to display hidden files to see it. It is located in the /var/spm directory (Linux).
  3. Click List keys to view the contents of the keys database. List Keys also provides you with the beginning (beg_date) and end date (end_date) of your license keys.
  4. Once the license is installed, you must start the license server (click the Start Server button).
  5. You can also type the following at the command line:
/etc/init.d/sispm {start|stop} \\in this case, use the start option
