Error running setupexe when trying to install xsi
Symptom
A Windows Error warning appears when trying to run setup.exe. It may contain a warning like:
"Runtime Error . . . . . setup.exe abnormal program termination"
Cause
This may occur if the setup program cannot access the Temp directory and there are two possible causes for this:
- The temp directory is full.
- The environment variable pointing to the Temp directory is invalid.
Solution
- Check that the environment variable for the temp directory is pointing to the right place - to check the environment you can write 'set' in a Command Prompt. If the environment for the Temp directory is pointing to the wrong place you will need to correct this in your system environment settings.
- Check space on the drive where the Temp directory resides - if there is not enough space on the drive the installation program will not run.
- In addition to the space in your Temp directory needed by the installation program, you should make sure that you have enough disk space to install the software itself:
- Windows: 710 MB for a typical installation, 740 MB for Windows x64. Setup requires additional temporary disk space for your system’s temporary folder when decompressing files during installation.
- Linux: 950 MB for a typical installation. Setup requires additional temporary disk space for your system’s temporary folder when decompressing files during installation.
Applies To: XSI 5.0 on Windows, Linux
