Error audio hw has not been properly configured running in null hw mode
Article needs peer review
Symptom
When you start up XSI you may get the following error message:
"Audio Hw has not been properly configured (running in null hw mode)"
Cause
XSI sometimes detects an additional audio source on your machine, for instance it may try to address your modem as a sound card if you have Voice features on your modem card. Once XSI has tried to use an inappropriate audio facility it will decide that the audio hardware has not been properly configured and it will fail to detect the default sound card.
Solution
To solve the problem you need to deactivate the audio facility of your modem by doing the following:
- Open the Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > Hardware panel and search for a sound driver linked to your modem and disable the driver.
- Stop the mental ray rayserver service using you Services Control Panel and remove XSI.
- Reboot
- Remove the Softimage XSI installation folder and reinstall XSI.
You should not have any further problem with the configuration of your audio hardware.
