Envelopes lost on applying shapes
Symptom
Having created your key shapes you have now enveloped the character to a skeletal hierarchy. Now when you apply your shapes(or try to add new shapes) to the shape tracks in the mixer the enveloping is lost.
Cause
When you instance the new shapes, XSI removes the envelope operator.
Solution
Mute the envelope before applying new shape sources in the mixer. To do this select the Envelope>Polymesh>Envelopop>Mute. Now new shape sources can be added to the mixer shape tracks. The envelope operator can be unmuted after all the shapes have been added to the mixer.
Use the same procedure if you are trying to modify existing shapes on an enveloped character. Always mute the envelope before you make changes to the shape sources.
Note
This problem can happen with versions prior to XSI 4.0. Since the introduction of contruction modes in XSI 4.0, only deformations done in primary or secondary shape modeling mode are removed when you create shapes. The only reason one needs to apply a deformation in a shape modeling mode is when this deformation is part of a rig used to create shapes. In which case, you can still use the prior solution to avoid deletion of your deformation operator.
