Edit boxes on xp are grey

Symptom

All edit boxes, when using Windows XP are Grey.

Cause

This is the result of an issue with Microsoft Windows XP, where applications that use transparent background mode in a text box will be displayed with a different colour.

Solution

The Preferred solution is:

  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options > Add other languages (when Control Panel is in Category View)
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options Language Tab (when Control Panel is in Classic View)
  • Make sure both options under Supplemental language support are unchecked.

If you are using a language option that does not allow you to uncheck these options, please contact Microsoft Support to request the HotFix for Q328979.
