Deep paint interactive with xsi

Article needs peer review

Summary

Deep Paint (http:www.us.righthemisphere.com) is a third party product from Right Hemisphere , used to create and edit textures for your models. There are different methods of using Deep Paint with XSI, but the method illustrated below seems to be the most direct and interactive approach.

Steps

Before you start, remember that to use Deep paint with XSI, you must have the Deep3D+ plugin installed.  Deep3D+ is a Right Hemisphere plugin that gets installed in Softimage|3D when you install Deep Paint. This plugin will export your texture information into Deep Paint.

  1. Apply all your materials, textures and projections to your object. Once everything is in place, save your scene.
  2. Export the object as a dotXSI file.
  3. Open Softimage|3D and import the dotXSI file.
  4. Select the imported object and choose Matter > Texture > Deep3D+ > Paint. Your texture will be exported to Deep Paint, which should open automatically.
  5. In Deep Paint, save the new project. This creates a new set of textures in your Deep Paint folders.
  6. Close Softimage|3D.
  7. Switch back to XSI, select your object, and open the Render Tree (press 7). For each image node, change the Texture Image parameter to point to the appropriate texture that you created in Deep Paint.
  8. Now you can start modifying your textures in Deep Paint.  To update the texture files, save the project.
  9. In XSI, draw a Render Region in over the object.  As you modify and save the textures in Deep Paint, your changes will be reflected in the Render Tree.

More Information

Now you're able to paint in Deep Paint, save the project and use Render Region in XSI to interactively preview the new textures on your object.

Note: Due to Bug 51354 XSI - Persistence of shared Textures

Textures will not update automatically within XSI when saved from a third-party product.  This is a temporary limitation. Until this bug is resolved, use the following workaround: From the Image property page or the Render Tree, disconnect the image clip node (the orange node labeled with the image's filename) from the green Image node, the re-connect it immediately. The texture will be updated in the Render Tree.
