Cannot generate license request on linux

Symptom

When you try and generate a license request on Linux, you get the following error: 

 ******** Generating key request code ********
 Errorcode 0x0002. Please contact SPM support service.
 SPM_FATAL ERROR (./spm_key) : Error while checking protection system.



Cause

Linux networking is not setup correctly.

Solution

  • First check your hostname
    • run 'hostname' and 'uname -r' from a shell, do these match?
  • Can you ping your hostname?
    • run 'ifconfig', does your network card have a valid IP address?
  • If you have setup your network card to use DHCP, and there is no DHCP server, you will not get an IP address which will result in the above error.
