Animation editor fcurve editor display problems
Article needs peer review
Symptom
Strange display errors in the Fcurve Editor (nested inside the Animation Editor), for example if you zoom in the Fcurve Editor when a cycled fcurve is displayed. The Fcurve may change to an illegal curve where the last point and the first point of the cycle are joined together to form a continuous loop. Another problem relatd to this is that you may experience crashes when working in the Fcurve Editor.
Cause
This problem has been seen with some of the graphics cards that have not been certified to run with Softimage XSI 2.0.
Softimage XSI 2.x takes full advantage of OGL to optimise the display of the Fcruve Editor (Softimage XSI 1.5x did not use OGL in this area). As a result of this some of the previously certified graphics cards no longer perform to a satisfactory level when you are working in the Animation Editor.
Solution
If you are experiencing crashes in the Fcurve Editor it may help to upgrade your graphics card driver.
If you are experiencing the display errors a workaround to this problem is to disable the use of OGL in the Fcurve Editor. To do this you need to do the following:
- open the Animation Editor Preferences
- select the 'View' tab
- disable the 'Use Open GL' option
This will disable the use of OGL in the Animation Editor and should mean that these display errors no longer happen. It will, however, mean that there is no OGL optimisation for the Animation Editor and you might experience much slower performance in the editor when working with many Fcurves.
